The GCMC Investment Planning Committee set up by the Honourable Minister for Energy and Green Transition has paid a working visit to the Ghana Cylinder Manufacturing Company (GCMC) on the 10th April, 2025 to assess progress and explore avenues for revamping the facility.
The visit, chaired by the Deputy Minister for Energy, Honourable Richard Gyan- Mensah, was held in line with the committee’s mandate to assist the Ghana National Gas Company (GNGC) in seeking funding and strategic support for the revitalization of GCMC.

In his opening remarks, the Managing Director of GCMC, Mr. Abdul-Rahman Mankir, expressed heartfelt appreciation for the committee’s presence, highlighting the company’s critical role in Ghana’s energy value chain and reaffirmed management’s commitment to aligning with the government’s vision of a robust, self-reliant manufacturing sector. “This visit marks a significant milestone in our journey toward industrial revitalization. We are very optimistic about the transformation ahead,” he stated.
As part of the visit, the contractor designated for the project presented a detailed proposal of the prospective outlook of the factory after the planned revamp. The presentation outlined key improvements including upgraded machinery, enhanced safety features, increased production capacity, and expanded storage facilities. It was emphasized that the modernization would maintain the position of GCMC as the leading company in West Africa’s LPG cylinder manufacturing industry and contribute significantly to job creation and local content promotion.
Hon. Richard Gyan-Mensah, in response, expressed deep satisfaction with the proposed transformation and the clarity of the contractor’s vision. He commended the management of GCMC for their resilience and dedication, stating his impression of the level of details and ambition outlined and assured the team to personally brief the sector minister to ensure the vision receives the necessary attention and support for full implementation. “We are committed to working tirelessly to mobilize the resources required to revamp GCMC and position it to meet both local demand and regional export opportunities,” he said.
Following the presentations, the committee, led by the technical operations team of GCMC, embarked on a comprehensive tour of the facility. The delegation inspected various departments, from fabrication and welding to testing and packaging. Committee members engaged with staff and expressed admiration for their professionalism, technical knowledge, and dedication despite the operational challenges.
The visit concluded with a formal acknowledgement by the Managing Director and management team, who extended special appreciation to the Honourable Deputy Minister for his leadership and active participation and pledged to work closely with the committee to provide the necessary support to bring this entire vision to light.
The visit is expected to catalyze further collaboration between stakeholders and accelerate efforts to secure funding for the much-needed revamping project of the Ghana Cylinder Manufacturing Company.
