After a courtesy call to Buipewura Abdulai Jinapor II to seek his blessings , the Ghana Cylinder Manufacturing Company (GCMC) team engaged with key stakeholders, including leaders of identifiable groups and market queens. The purpose of this meeting was to educate them on the safe use of LPG cylinders, cookstoves, and the government’s Cylinder Recirculation Model (CRM) program.
In many households, particularly in the northern regions of Ghana, traditional cooking methods such as firewood and charcoal remain prevalent despite their associated health and safety risks. These outdated methods contribute to indoor air pollution, deforestation, and fire hazards. At GCMC, we are committed to promoting safer, cleaner, and more efficient cooking solutions.
Through our LPG sensitization project, we aimed to introduce the government’s CRM initiative, educate households on the benefits of modern and clean cooking methods, and provide access to affordable, safe alternatives.
To achieve this, the company embarked on a sensitization project in Buipe and surrounding communities in the Savannah Region. Our goal was to raise awareness about the CRM initiative and highlight the need to transition from traditional fuel sources to clean cooking solutions. The widespread reliance on charcoal and firewood for cooking not only poses serious health risks due to prolonged exposure to harmful gases but also contributes to environmental degradation through deforestation and bush burning, which ultimately affects the climate.
The team provided a detailed explanation of the Cylinder Recirculation Model (CRM), emphasizing that under this system, citizens would exchange their old and empty cylinders at designated exchange points for new, refilled, and recertified ones. The team also highlighted the advantages of this initiative, including enhanced safety, convenience, and guaranteed access to high-quality LPG cylinders. Additionally, they elaborated on the role of GCMC in the entire recirculation process, reinforcing the company’s commitment to ensuring a safer and more sustainable cooking environment for all.
